Over 3,000 pilots fought for Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. The majority of them were British but pilots also came from other nations such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, Ireland, Belgium, France Poland and Czechoslovakia. The RAF only kept a detailed record that survived the war of those pilots who had died during the battle and they were commemorated at the Battle of Britain Chapel that was unveiled at Westminster Abbey in 1947. It was not until 1969 that a complete list of the pilots who fought for Fighter Command was published – a fourteen-year labour of love for John Holloway, an officer in the Royal Air Force. The following links are to the surnames of those who flew at least one recognised operational sortie for Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain.
